With less than 24 hours to go before the Accord Party governorship primary in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has finalised plans to defect to the party.
A high-profile gathering is underway at the Government House Banquet Hall where the governor is expected to formally declare his switch and seek the party’s nomination for next year’s re-election bid. The event has drawn senior government appointees and national Accord Party officials, several of whom were seen wearing the party’s branded caps.
The timing of the move is significant: the Accord Party will hold its governorship primary on Wednesday, and political strategists say Adeleke’s decision to join now positions him to contest the party ticket.
In the hours leading up to the expected announcement, some Senior Special Assistants handling media affairs began displaying Accord Party symbols on their social media profiles — an early indicator of the governor’s alignment. One notable example is media aide Oladele Bamiji, who posted the Accord emblem on his WhatsApp status with the caption: “Imole Till 2030.”
Observers note that pre-emptive branding by members of a governor’s communications team can prime public perception and shape the narrative before an official confirmation. Critics, however, warn that such partisan displays by government aides risk blurring the line between state duties and political campaigning.
As the banquet hall meeting continues, attention remains fixed on whether Governor Adeleke will formally accept the Accord Party platform and the implications that decision may have for the upcoming election.
