National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has welcomed a delegation of United States lawmakers to his office in Abuja, marking a renewed phase in Nigeria–US security cooperation. The meeting follows recent high-level security consultations held in Washington.
The delegation, which included Representatives Mario DÃaz-Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, Juan Ciscomani and Riley Moore, held discussions focused on strengthening counter-terrorism efforts, intelligence collaboration and regional stability.
Ribadu reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to deepen its partnership with the United States, stressing the importance of coordinated strategies to combat terrorism and enhance long-term security within the region.
Beyond the Abuja meetings, the U.S. lawmakers also travelled to Makurdi, Benue State, where they met with state authorities as part of a wider assessment of security challenges and humanitarian conditions. Their engagements in Benue centred on communal conflicts, displacement issues and U.S. support for stabilisation programs.
