Zoya Tuganova, 70, gave birth to her daughter at a hospital in Chelyabinsk in south-central Russia's Chelyabinsk Oblast region in 1987.

But when staff handed her a child, she complained she did not recognise her and f

Doctors dismissed her accusations and offered to send her for psychiatric tests instead of investigating her claims.

Zoya said: "With fair hair, white skin, large eyes. The next day when they brought

a child for feeding I looked at her and it was a completely different face."

Ms Tuganova and her husband raised a girl who they called Katya, who suffers

from a heart disease.

While another woman, identified as Elvira Tuligenova, brought up Ms Tuganova's daughter, called Lucia.

Lucia had to beg for money for food as neither of her parents worked, Ms T

uganova claims.

When she was 13, Lucia was taken to an orphanage after her mother died from

alcoholism and her father was imprisoned for murder.

Ms Tuganova claims she has always been worried she was raising someone else's child but did not investigate it until her husband's death.

"I watched a show where two children got mixed up, and started crying out loud," she said.

Together with Katya, they found Lucia and took a DNA test that confirmed the

girls were mixed up.
