JUST IN: President Bola Tinubu asks Senate to approve the appointment of new service chiefs

President Bola Tinubu has formally asked the Senate to screen and approve his newly appointed service chiefs.

The request was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday’s plenary session.

In the letter, Tinubu listed the nominees as follows: General Olufemi Oluyede for Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu for Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas for Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke for Chief of Air Staff, and Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye for Chief of Defence Intelligence.

After reading the letter, Akpabio instructed that the nominees be presented before the Committee of the Whole for screening and possible confirmation next week.

This development comes a day after President Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
