The Ogun State Medical Center of Excellence in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, is on track for commissioning in December 2025, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced after touring the 250-bed complex on Monday.

The governor said the hospital, abandoned in an incomplete state by the previous administration, has undergone major reconstruction to correct what he described as extensive civil, structural, and electrical engineering gaps.

Abiodun disclosed that the facility will be operated by the Abuja Medical Center of Excellence, which has international affiliations including a partnership with King’s College Hospital in London. The new Ogun hospital will serve as a “spoke” in that network, a move the government believes will position the state as a top destination for quality medical care.

He highlighted recent progress on the site, including landscaping, a new entrance canopy, upgraded gate structures, and functioning oxygen systems. He added that additional manpower has been deployed to accelerate final works so the hospital can begin limited operations in the coming weeks.

“This project will be one of our Christmas gifts to the people of Ogun State,” Abiodun said.

Dr. Frank Etang, representing Healthshare Integrated Solutions, the private operator managing the complex, confirmed that radiology units, the laboratory, the basement, ground floor, and consulting rooms are already complete. He said the team is currently finalizing the first floor, which contains the ICU, surgical theaters, and wards.

The state government expects the new facility to offer high-quality services strong enough to curb medical tourism and compete favorably with other major health institutions in the region.
