Setting the record straight on Friday, Don Adinuba, who previously served as Anambra’s commissioner for information and public enlightenment, dismissed the reports as completely baseless. According to him, Obiano is “alive, in good health and currently living in Texas, USA.”
Adinuba expressed shock at how quickly the false report spread, insisting that the former governor has never been in London.
“The Nigerian media space has been flooded in the last few hours with an unfounded claim that Chief Willie Obiano is dead. There is absolutely no truth to this. He lives in Texas—not London,” he clarified in a statement.
He added that Obiano remains energetic and active despite recently turning 70.
“He is not only alive but remarkably strong and agile for someone his age,” Adinuba said.
The former commissioner also highlighted the overwhelming messages of concern from Nigerians and supporters across the world, describing it as proof of Obiano’s enduring influence nearly four years after leaving office and maintaining a quiet life abroad.
Adinuba further compared the false alarm to past death rumours involving iconic leaders.
“At just 70, Chief Obiano joins the ranks of notable figures like the Great Zik of Africa, whose reported death also turned out to be completely fabricated,” he said.
