The political crisis in Rivers State has taken a dramatic turn as the State House of Assembly formally commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The lawmakers have also initiated similar steps against the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, with plans underway to issue her a notice of alleged gross misconduct within the next seven days.
During a plenary session, the Leader of the House, Major Jack, presented the allegations of gross misconduct leveled against Governor Fubara. The document, which was reportedly endorsed by 26 members of the Assembly, outlines several accusations forming the basis of the impeachment process.
Speaking after the presentation, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, confirmed that the formal notice of gross misconduct would be served on the governor within seven days, in line with constitutional provisions.
